For the second round! Out of sentiment, we return to the farms we know – and seriously, it’s because they are usually a sure thing! We had coffee from this farm not so long ago – only it was a blend of different botanical varieties, here is one – Red Caturra. Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon variety and was discovered in Brazil sometime between 1915 and 1918. The name Caturra comes from the Guarani language and means “tiny” – this refers to the shape and size of the seeds, but also to the fact that the bushes of this variety are smaller. This means they can be planted closer together and have more coffee on the same surface. In Guatemala, this variety appeared around 1940 and to this day it is one of the most commonly produced coffee varieties there.
