Urugori women's program

Active origin: Rwanda
The Urugori (meaning "women's crown") program is a women-focused specialty coffee initiative linked to Gasharu Coffee washing station in Nyamasheke District, Western Province, Rwanda, near Lake Kivu at approximately 1,600 masl. More than 70% of Gasharu Coffee employees are women, and the program creates a transparent profit-sharing framework that directs additional proceeds to the women who hand-pick and process Red Bourbon cherries on steep hillside plots. Lots from the program are released as washed and anaerobic washed coffees characterized by fruit-forward, floral cup profiles.
