About

Mother Tongue Coffee is a women- and Latinx-owned specialty roaster and cafe founded in 2019 by Jen Apodaca in Oakland, California. Apodaca has roasted professionally since 2005 at McMenamin's, Intelligentsia, Blue Bottle, and The Crown, and is a certified Q-Grader, former chair of the Coffee Roasters Guild of America, and the 2019 US Cup Tasters Champion. Mother Tongue sources from producers who share its values of ethical trade and pays above fair-trade prices. The cafe and bar at 308 41st Street in Oakland serves coffee, pastries, small plates, and a full bar.
